What to do if your Samsung Galaxy battery seems completely drained
If your Samsung Galaxy battery seems completely drained and the screen remains black, the device may need some time to begin charging before it responds. Start by connecting your Galaxy to a charger, then check the charger and cable if needed. If the device still does not respond after charging, a forced restart can help determine whether it is simply frozen.
Note: The information provided applies to Samsung devices sold in Canada. Screens and settings may vary for devices sold in other countries.
If the battery is completely drained, your Samsung Galaxy may not turn on immediately after you connect it to a charger. Connect your device to a compatible charger and plug the charger into a working power outlet. Leave your Samsung Galaxy connected and give the battery some time to begin charging before trying to turn it on.
The charging indicator may also take a few minutes to appear on the screen. Once a charging icon or battery percentage appears, this is a good indication that your Samsung Galaxy is receiving power and that the battery was simply drained.
If a charging icon or battery percentage does not appear after your Samsung Galaxy has been connected for a few minutes, the charger or cable may be preventing the battery from charging. Try using another compatible charger and USB cable, if available, and connect your device to a working power outlet.
After connecting the new charger and cable, give the battery a few minutes to respond. If a charging icon or battery percentage appears on the screen, leave your Samsung Galaxy connected and allow the battery to charge before trying to turn it on.
Note: For safe and reliable charging, use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables that are in good condition. Avoid using a charger or cable that is damaged, worn, or incompatible with your Samsung Galaxy.
Even if nothing appears on the screen and your Samsung Galaxy does not turn on normally, leave it connected to the charger for 15 to 20 minutes. This gives a completely drained battery some time to begin charging before you try to turn on the device again.
If your Samsung Galaxy still does not respond after charging, it may be frozen rather than completely out of power. In this case, try a force restart. Press and hold the Side button and Volume down button simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears on the screen, then release both buttons. This may take 10 seconds or longer, so continue holding both buttons until the logo appears.
If your Samsung Galaxy still does not turn on after charging it, trying another charger and cable, and performing a force restart, additional assistance may be needed. Contact Samsung Support for help with the next steps and to determine whether your Galaxy needs to be inspected or serviced.
